Virgil Abloh, creative genius and director of the Louis Vuitton men's line, died prematurely at the age of 41, after a long illness kept secret. The show with which the French fashion house presented the spring-summer 2022 collection was his artistic testament, the latest performance by a man who transformed himself into a style icon, giving luster to street-style fashion.

Eccentric, brilliant, volcanic. For days, in the media all over the world, the adjectives with which the great names of fashion and entertainment have chosen to greet Virgil Abloh, a young talent from an already sparkling career. Just 41 yearsin fact, the creative director of the Louis Vuitton men's line he lost the battle to a rare form of cancer. Behind him he leaves a long trail of successes and a professional testament that was staged on the occasion of the fashion show of presentation of the spring-summer 2022 collection signed by LVMH.

Creative genius and entrepreneurial talent

Born in 1980, of Ghanaian origins, Abloh had a degree in civil engineering and a master's in architecture. Design, therefore, had been her first passion, which soon merged into the golden world of fashion. To launch it, after the debut in Chicago streetwear, had been one internship at Fendi, alongside Kanye West, a close friend and central figure in his life and career. From the relationship with the singer-songwriter, in fact, fruitful forays into the world of music were born.

For the young Virgili, the climb to the summit of the world style was fast and paved with satisfactions. An ever growing parable, culminating in the creation of its own brand, Off-White, capable of establishing itself, in 2018, after a few years of activity, as the most popular brand in the world, leaving behind the likes of Gucci and Balenciaga. An unexpected but deserved exploit, son of the innate ability to intercept trends, especially those of the younger ones.  One step at a time, Abloh pushed himself higher and higher. Again in 2018, Time put him on the list of the 100 most influential people in the world, while the Louis Vuitton maison has chosen him to guide its men's fashion. An assignment sounded like a real consecration.

The revenge of street fashion

I'm not a surprise then affection and emotion with which the news of the disappearance of the American entrepreneur was welcomed around the world. One thing, however, is certain: despite her young age, hers imprint in international fashion it is there and will remain forever. "I am passionate about celebrating diversity". With these words, Abloh described his work at ArtTribune, managing to condense in one sentence the profound meaning of his style and his artistic research:inclusiveness. A commitment that has had as its main effects the rediscovery and re-evaluation of street fashion, therefore of a simple but attention to materials and details, within everyone's reach but ricercato at the same time. An approach that today also permeates the collections of Saveone, whose lines owe much to Abloh's insights. Why fashion must abandon the ivory towers e mingle in the street.
